狸猿 (guàn lí yuán): watered weasel ape
In Mandarin, this word sounds nearly the same as 管理员 (guǎn lǐ yuán), which means administrator. The watered weasel ape originally referred to the administrators of Baidu's online encyclopedia where many mythical creatures, including the grass-mud horse, first appeared and were promptly deleted. The term has been expanded to mean any web administrator who censors vulgar or politically sensitive content.
