目田 (mù tián) eye-field

If two small strokes are added to the top of each of these characters, they becomes 自由 (, meaning, "freedom." The characters literally represent "freedom" decapitated. The term originates from players of the game World of Warcraft, which is immensely popular in China. Users of the game were dismayed in September 2010 to learn that many words were being blocked, including some words that were part of their online characters' names. This caused difficulty logging in and caused annoyance for many who had spent considerable time developing their characters. Among the words newly screened was the word "freedom." The word "eye-field" was used as a substitute and also as a veiled jab at the government.
