微软 (Wēiruǎn): Microsoft

This is the Chinese name for Microsoft.

Netizens have poked fun at the name of Microsoft because in Chinese it literally means, “slightly soft.” A well-known pun for microblog is “slight erection,” and netizens have jokingly compared the two to see which is better, slightly firm or slightly soft.

Tang Jun, the former President of Microsoft China who was accused of resume fraud, has also become a butt of this pun. Netizens have joked, “Slightly soft (Microsoft) got Tang Jun hard, while a slight erection (microblogs) made Tang Jun soft ( 微软让唐骏硬了起来,微勃让唐骏萎了下去). News of Tang Jun’s alleged resume fraud spread quickly through microblogs.
